XERF Skin Tightening: What Is It and How Does It Compare to Sofwave and Morpheus8?

Meet XERF: A New Approach to Skin Tightening

If you’ve been comparing XERF vs Sofwave vs Morpheus8, you may be wondering what actually makes these skin-tightening treatments different.

XERF is an advanced, needle-free treatment that uses multifrequency monopolar radiofrequency to target different depths beneath the skin. By delivering controlled heat into the tissue, it encourages collagen remodelling to help improve skin firmness, laxity and facial definition over time.

But with established treatments such as Sofwave™ and Morpheus8 already available, an obvious question is: what makes XERF different and which skin-tightening treatment is right for you?

At Beau Clinic, we now offer all three technologies. That means our approach isn’t about declaring one treatment the “best”. It’s about understanding how each works and choosing the option best suited to your skin, concerns and goals.

In this guide, we’ll explain how XERF works, what it can help with and how it compares with Sofwave and Morpheus8.

How Does XERF Skin Tightening Work?

XERF uses multifrequency monopolar radiofrequency (RF) to deliver controlled heat beneath the surface of the skin. Unlike treatments that work at one predetermined depth, XERF combines two radiofrequency frequencies — 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz — with three depth settings, allowing treatment to be adapted according to the area being treated.

As the deeper layers of tissue are heated, the skin’s natural response is triggered, encouraging collagen remodelling. Over the following weeks and months, this can help improve firmness, reduce the appearance of laxity and create better definition through areas such as the lower face, jawline and neck.

XERF also incorporates cooling technology to protect the surface of the skin and improve comfort during treatment. It is completely needle-free and does not routinely require numbing cream or anaesthetic.

Rather than creating an instant or artificial-looking change, XERF is designed to produce a progressive improvement as the skin responds and collagen remodels over time.

What Can XERF Treat?

XERF is particularly suited to people who are beginning to notice changes in skin firmness and facial definition but aren’t looking for surgery or a treatment involving needles.

It can be used across the face and neck, with treatment tailored to your individual anatomy and concerns. These may include:

• Skin laxity and loss of firmness
• Early jowling
• A softer or less defined jawline
• Lower-face laxity
• Loose skin around the neck
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Changes associated with ageing skin

For some people, the appeal of XERF is that it offers a completely needle-free approach to skin tightening with minimal disruption to everyday life. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the right treatment for everyone.

This is where having several skin-tightening technologies available at Beau Clinic becomes particularly useful.

XERF vs Sofwave vs Morpheus8: What's the Difference?

XERF, Sofwave and Morpheus8 can all form part of a treatment plan for concerns associated with skin ageing and laxity, but the technology behind them is quite different.

XERF™ uses multifrequency monopolar radiofrequency. It is completely needle-free and allows controlled RF energy to be delivered at different depths beneath the skin, with integrated cooling helping to maintain comfort.

Sofwave™ uses ultrasound energy rather than radiofrequency. It delivers energy at a controlled depth within the skin to stimulate a healing response and new collagen production. Like XERF, it doesn’t use needles.

Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy. Tiny needles enter the skin and deliver RF energy into the tissue, creating controlled micro-injuries as part of the treatment process. This makes it a more invasive treatment than either XERF or Sofwave and means the treatment experience and recovery are different.

The important point is that different technology doesn’t simply mean better or worse. Your skin, the degree and location of laxity, the concerns you would like to address, your tolerance for downtime and the result you’re hoping to achieve can all influence which approach makes the most sense.

Having several options available means we can choose the treatment to suit the patient – rather than trying to make the patient suit the treatment.

What Does XERF Feel Like and Is There Downtime?

One of the appealing features of XERF is that it offers skin tightening without needles, numbing cream or significant downtime.

During treatment, controlled radiofrequency energy creates warmth within the targeted tissue while integrated cooling helps protect the surface of the skin and maintain comfort. Individual sensitivity varies, but treatment can be adjusted appropriately throughout your appointment.

Afterwards, the skin may appear slightly flushed or feel warm for a short time, but for most people there is minimal disruption to normal daily activities.

Results aren’t designed to appear overnight. XERF works by encouraging the skin’s natural collagen-remodelling process, so improvements in firmness and definition develop gradually over the following weeks and months.

As with any aesthetic treatment, individual results vary, and we’ll discuss realistic expectations with you during your consultation.

So, Is XERF Right for Me?

XERF may be an excellent option if you’re beginning to notice mild to moderate skin laxity, early jowling or reduced definition through the face, jawline or neck and would prefer a completely needle-free approach.

But you don’t need to arrive at Beau Clinic having already decided whether you need XERF, Sofwave or Morpheus8.

In fact, we’d rather you didn’t feel that you had to.

A consultation allows us to assess your skin, discuss what’s bothering you and understand the kind of result you’re hoping to achieve. We can then recommend the technology — or combination of treatments — that we believe is most appropriate for you.

The aim isn’t to sell you the newest machine. It’s to recommend the right treatment.
